Wonderful (Collab) World of Wicked
We knew brand tie-ins were coming, but the Wicked: For Good collabs make James Bond look like a piker.
This article in The Hollywood Reporter lists close to 100 tie-ins, and the list keeps growing! Dolls, books, and DVDs are obvious and expected. So is Arianna Grande’s R.E.M. cosmetics that allow users to replicate Glinda’s pinky glow.
Most of the others were uninspired, at best: sweatshirts with the Wicked logo, a slew of tumblers, and products from Pottery Barn and PB Teens, including goblets and a lamp. A clever item was the Wicked trunk vanity, but it comes with a $1399 price tag.
Other items are just a flat-out stretch. Swiffer suggested their product was a broom substitute. Cascade pods created a limited edition of their dishwashing detergent with an “emerald city” scent. Methinks that’s pushing the “limited edition” idea a bit far.
Finally, some products are already sold out, including the Woobles item above. I had never heard of this company before. They produce packages that teach people to crochet small characters. In this case, the package includes ones from the movie. I’m a knitter, and I have a sense of what yarn and needles cost. Unless they are making this out of cashmere, why does this cost $165 (discounted!)?
